Nursery Reveal & Budget Breakdown

As Aaron showed off last week, the former kitchen-turned-craft-room was seriously upgraded into a proper bedroom just in time for us to hit the May market in hopes of selling our house. Given that we have a baby looming whether we sold or not, we decided to plow forward with decorating the nursery. If we stayed, we’d be ready for him. If we sold, the nursery would move with us. So that’s what we’ve done.   Want a tour?

It means Great Lion; which was the inspiration for his circus themed nursery. I wanted the room to feel happy and fun and fit for this child that we already love so much, and on the whole I’m very happy with how the room has turned out.  I’m not in love with the paint color for the room, but it’s what we already had in there, and I couldn’t see the sense investing to repaint a room we hoped to be leaving. It’s Limish by Valspar and looked great in the room’s former use but wouldn’t be what I’d have picked starting fresh. I think it’s fine, but if/when we move I’ll be remixing the paint color for sure. Anyway, on to all the fun details

As always when cooking up a decorating scheme, I try to work with pieces we already have on hand and balance splurges and steals to achieve my desired look without breaking the bank. I’m proud that through a combination or re-purposing, auctioning, discount code shopping, and DIY we whipped up an adorable nursery for less than $1500, especially since the first glider and ottoman combo I had my eye on would have cost as much as nearly our whole nursery.  In case you’re curious how I pulled it off, here’s a source list and budget breakdown

This week also marks the reveal of another design project I’ve been working on: our local community theater group the Mill Race Players opens their production of Willy Wonka tomorrow at Columbus North Auditorium. If you are in the area, there are performances tomorrow (Thursday), Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm and an additional matinee on Saturday at 2:30. Tickets are available online here, or at the door. I’ll be back soon to show off my work but I’ll tease now that it involved several dozen foam pool noodles, hundreds of feet of aluminum foil and was enough work to land me back on bedrest during tech week (oops). It’s going to be a great show though, and I highly recommend you check it out!
